Who is the Holy Spirit?

Stephen Nielsen's avatarPrayer A to Z

As we can see from His name Holy Spirit…

He is holy.  He is holy simply because He is God.  He is the holy spirit of God and we call Him Holy Spirit.  Thus, being God, we know that He is holy.  As 1 John 1:5 indicates, God is light and in Him is no darkness at all.

We also see in His name that…

He is spirit.  Being spirit He is never visible and we can not touch Him.  But He does communicate and commune with us, from His spirit to ours, as we attempt to live in His spirit.  The more we put away the deeds of the flesh and walk in the Spirit, the more we will be able to commune with Him and sense in our spirit and in our mind (which I believe has a connection to the spirit) that He is present…

The Tribulation Temple and the two Witnesses

Stephen Nielsen's avatarStudying Bible Prophecy

Revelation 11:1-2.Then there was given me a measuring rod like a staff; and someone said, “Get up and measure the temple of God and the altar, and those who worship in it. 2 “Leave out the court which is outside the temple and do not measure it, for it has been given to the nations; and they will tread under foot the holy city for forty-two months.

After John eats the little book and is told to keep warning the people about the coming judgments, he is next given a measuring rod and is told to measure the temple, the altar and the worshippers. We are not told why he is to do this, but we could make some conjectures.

Looking at it in a spiritual way, I think we can see the measuring as how God is evaluating the spiritual conditions of the temple and its people. Tim…

Complete Holiness

Stephen Nielsen's avatarPrayer A to Z

The nature of holiness is that it is not satisfied to be in just one area.  It wants to penetrate into all areas; it wants to purify the whole; as light it wants to brighten every corner and crack.  In this study of personal holiness, I want to discuss every possible area of holiness in our lives—complete holiness.  As I see it, there are generally two areas of personal holiness: outer holiness, or holiness in the body, and inner holiness, or holiness in the mind and the spirit.

HOLINESS IN MIND AND SPIRIT

These areas of our inner being must be considered of primary importance when it comes to holiness; for without holiness in these areas, the outer body will neither be holy.

The mind. The mind is that place from where we think and reason and imagine.  And though we believe that these things originate in the brain…

The Mighty Angel and the Little Book – Revelation 10:1-11

Stephen Nielsen's avatarStudying Bible Prophecy

I have been writing a book on the Tribulation and blogging it.  I am now up to the end of the Trumpet judgments. I am now beginning an interlude (Rev. 1-11:14) that comes between the sixth and seventh Trumpet of Revelation, Part one. You may want to follow along in your bible.

Just after John saw and recorded that a third of mankind was killed by the locust creatures and that those who survived do not repent, he suddenly saw a mighty angel coming down from heaven. We will look now at the identity of this angel and a few other things that God wants to tell His people in this second interlude. God’s intention here is to give them a short break in order to encourage and comfort them and to remind them that He is in control and will ultimately bring them victory. We will look at this…

Choosing the Best Flower

There are always choices in life.

And we always try to choose the best things,

the prettiest, the clearest, the most vibrant,

the things that please us,

and the things that we think will please others,

and, in the end make them like us.

Ya, its mostly about us,

about me, me, me.

But I really hope you like this flower as much as I do.

It’s the best one I have.

Practice Keeping Your Eyes Pure: Fighting Against Pornography

This post on sexual purity is part of my category on holiness. I wrote it over ten years ago and is an excerpt from my book on prayer. We all need this more than ever these days.

Stephen Nielsen's avatarPrayer A to Z

Some would say, “It is impossible these days to keep your eyes pure, because there is so much pornography out there; we see it practically everywhere we go.”  But I want to tell you that with God’s help, and with practice, it is a battle that can be won!

In this post we will talk about how people get trapped into viewing pornography, then about its results, and last, about how to fight against it.

How People Get Trapped Into Viewing Pornography

The reason why people (both men and women) get trapped into viewing pornography is because they have not been warned against it, and they are unprepared to face it.  Satan comes against them as an angel of light to deceive them and trap them, and as a roaring lion to devour them.   And the reason why they continue in it is because they find…

A Brave Mother Robin

The battled-scared mother Robin

About a week ago a brave mother Robin did all she could to fight off a large hawk. It looked like a Red-Tailed hawk–very large.

Red-Tailed Hawk

I saw it in my living rook window. I immediately thought, Oh no the baby birds. So I ran to the window and scared it away. I looked down at the Robin’s nest to discover that there was only two babies in the nest. The hawk must have carried the other two off. Then a couple hours later, while I was working in another room, I heard a commotion and birds chirping. I went to the living room window to discover that the nest was empty. Too late! The chicks were gone.

The four baby chicks right outside my window.

Then I saw her. The mother Robin was near by perched on a tall dead tree stump. I thought, she must be devastated. I saw her quite often when she was sitting on the eggs and also after the chicks were hatched–sitting on them and guarding them. So we knew each other–sort of.

She looked so torn up and beaten up. She stayed around the empty nest for hours sulking over her lost chicks. I felt so bad. I haven’t seen her for over a week now. I wonder how she is. Will she come back to the old nest and try again? I hope not. it’s too dangerous.

So long my friend! Get well.

The January 6th Trial: Out to Get Trump!

The Jan 6th trial is not about saving America. It is just about getting Donald Trump.

I am so sick of these illegal trials—or whatever you call it (hearings). I read today in my newspaper that the rioters were “heavily armed with military-grade equipment and AR-15s”… and that they “had guns, knives, oversized sticks, bear spray and spears.”

Well. if they had all of that, why is it that no one was killed—only one girl was shot by the D.C. police. It’s all a bunch of lies!

This whole Jan 6th trial is illegal and fraudulent—because it is all one sided. They have not allowed anyone from the other side to testify at all. All the witnesses are out to get Trump. YOU KNOW THAT! It is all focused on accusing Trump. They (Pelosi and company) have one goal: to prosecute Trump and prevent him from running again.

If they had allowed witnesses from the “real GOP” you would hear a different story—that Trump called for 20,000 National guard to come. But Pelosi rejected it. Why? I think she wanted the riot to happen so that she could entrap Trump. Yes, I think Pelosi is mostly to blame—she is extremely evil! And Liz Cheney is in on it too. It is obvious that she has a personal long-standing grudge against Trump. She has been angry at him for a long time. She is so bitter and self-righteous! You can see it on her face.

Why are we letting this thing continue?

But you know that if it wasn’t Jan. 6th it would be something else. Any little thing. Today I heard that Trump threw ketchup on someone! Terrible! A Federal crime. What will they say next?

Will God allow this to go on much longer?

I pray that they will be trapped in their own trap.

The nations have fallen into the pit they have dug;

their feet are caught in the net they have hidden.

16 The Lord is known by his justice;

the wicked are ensnared by the work of their hands.

Practice Right Thinking For Holiness–Philippians 4:8

Stephen Nielsen's avatarPrayer A to Z

The practice of meditating on the Word will be most beneficial for right thinking, because when you are meditating on the scriptures your mind is occupied with right thoughts.  And the scriptures will also guide you in what else to think about in the world besides the scriptures.  One of the passages that specifically tell us that is Philippians 4:8.  Here Paul outlines for us seven things we should think about; or I think we could also look at it as seven qualities or virtues we should seek out and think about in different things in the world, such as in people, books, movies, and institutions.

But we are not to just casually think over them; the word translated “think on” or “meditate on” (logizesthe), suggests more than just thinking.  The word actually means to take inventory, to reason, to reckon, and to esteem.  Adam Clark suggests that…
