3 Things to Pray That the Holy Spirit Will Do For Us

Prayer A to Z

Let us pray that the Holy Spirit will do these three things for us and in us:

1.  Bring us into communion with God

Since we know that God is spirit and that He is omnipresent, we can be sure that He is always with us and in us.  The Bible tells us that we cannot escape from His presence (Ps. 139:7-12).  We also know that since He is a person, we can relate to Him as a person.  For these reasons, it is possible to have a great and lasting relationship with Him.

The only problem is that our sinful flesh often gets in the way, and therefore, we often reject Him.  But our flesh need not be a problem.  Jesus died on the cross for our sins, and so, we can simply confess our sins, repent, and come back into fellowship with Him.  And the Holy Spirit is…

Four Things to Pray That the Holy Spirit Will Do For Us

Prayer A to Z

As Christians we are indwelt with the Holy Spirit. But it is up to us every day to ask Him for His help. Here are four things we can ask of Him.

  1.  That He will give us power over temptation.  The Bible says that if we live by the Spirit—that is, if we have our mind set on what the Spirit desires and we do what the Spirit tells us—we will not carry out the desires of the flesh (Rom. 8:5; Gal. 5:16).  It seems so easy.  But the reason why it often turns out to be so hard is because we try to live by the Spirit without asking for His help.

We cannot live by the Spirit or set our mind on what the Spirit desires without bowing our head in prayer—constantly asking for the Spirits help.  Pray for His help and power!  And…

8 Ways the Holy Spirit Helps Us Pray

Prayer A to Z

There are so many different ways the Holy Spirit helps us to pray.  Here are eight ways:

1.  He brings to us the Spirit of the Father.  Since the Holy Spirit has the same Spirit of the Father, and since He resides in us, He will convey to us that Spirit, which will help us in prayer.

Andrew Murray views this Sprit of the Father as a gift given to us by the Father in order that we (His children) may reproduce all the things He brings to us by His Spirit.  He says,

The best gift a good and wise earthly father can bestow on a child is his own spirit.  This is the object of a father in education—to reproduce in his child his own disposition and character.  If the child is to know and understand his father, if he is to enter into all…

4 Ways to have Unlimited Power in the Holy Spirit

Prayer A to Z

God has such great things in store for you.  He wants to give you all of His power through His spirit.  He wants to give you that power to do His great work.  Here are four ways to get that power:

1.  Pray that Christ would be Lord in your Life.  When you pray for the Holy Spirit to fill you, pray also for the Lordship of Christ.  For unless Christ is Lord in your life, the Holy Spirit can do no work there.  He is not even welcome there.  So pray that God would help you to make Him Lord, that He would give you the humble submissive spirit of a son—a son that would welcome His Son as Lord, and His Spirit to take control.

2.  Believe and obey God.  After you have prayed for the Holy Spirit to come in and fill you and for…

The Holy Spirit’s Role and Function in the Godhead

Prayer A to Z

As a husband or wife have a role and function in their marriage, in much the same way the Holy Spirit has a special role and function in the Godhead.  In connection with the Holy Spirit’s role, I think it is essential, first of all, to understand that the Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father and the Son.  In John 15:26 Jesus explains the Holy Spirit as one who proceeds from the Father.  And I think the Holy Spirit also proceeds from the Son since the Father and the Son are one.  This word “proceed” means to flow from.  That does not mean that He came from the Father and the Son as to originate from them or to be generated from them; but rather, proceed means that He eternally flows from the Father and the Son as to extend or to advance their life and purpose. Also…

Who is the Holy Spirit?

Prayer A to Z

As we can see from His name Holy Spirit…

He is holy.  He is holy simply because He is God.  He is the holy spirit of God and we call Him Holy Spirit.  Thus, being God, we know that He is holy.  As 1 John 1:5 indicates, God is light and in Him is no darkness at all.

We also see in His name that…

He is spirit.  Being spirit He is never visible and we can not touch Him.  But He does communicate and commune with us, from His spirit to ours, as we attempt to live in His spirit.  The more we put away the deeds of the flesh and walk in the Spirit, the more we will be able to commune with Him and sense in our spirit and in our mind (which I believe has a connection to the spirit) that He is present…

Why I Must Flee from Immorality – 1 Corinthians 6:18-20

I have been reminded recently of this truth—that our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. And because of this fact, we ought to flee from all that defiles this temple, mainly sexual immorality.

Flee immorality. Every other sin that a man commits is outside the body, but the immoral man sins against his own body. 19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? 20 For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.

I Corinthians 6:18-20

If any man is serious about his own purity, this passage is one of the best to memorize and take it to heart.  I found that it helps in my studying of it to go over it backwards. Let me show you.

From verse 20. God bought me with the price of His own blood. So, He owns me. I am His property. Hence, He has given me access to this body, and I am its steward. And when I am found to be a good steward, I am honoring Him.

From verse 19. Here is more about this body: I can call it my body because God has purchased it for me and given it to me. The purpose of this body is to house God’s Spirit. My body is called a temple, the temple where His Holy Spirit dwells. He lives in me.

From verse 18. Now in light of this truth, I must do all I can to take care of this body. But there is a grave danger to it that I must be aware of and guard against. It is sexual sin. All other sins are outside of the body, but immorality is a sin against the body (and who knows how many ways it goes against my body). Therefore, I must flee from this sin. It is the only way to fight against it. I cannot try to fight with it and overcome it. If I try that, it will always deceive me and trap me. No, nothing I do will work to destroy this sin. I must run from it. That is the only way of escape. It is the only way to keep my body (the body that God gave me) clean and pure and honoring to Him.

Personalities in the Tribulation: The Holy Spirit

Studying Bible Prophecy

The Holy Spirit is not mentioned in the Tribulation, but we know that He will be present, since He is eternally omnipresent. However, according to many scholars, it is believed that His ministry will be different in the Tribulation; and some believe that it will be the same as it was in the Old Testament.

The reason for this change is because at the Rapture the church will leave this earth; hence, the Holy Spirit’s ministry to the church will no longer be necessary, even to those who are believers during the Tribulation on earth, since they will not be the church. They will be believing saints, but not the church.

So what will the ministry of the Holy Spirit look like during the Tribulation? First of all, there are at least two, and possibly more, ministries that will be lacking: of baptism and of indwelling. The Holy Spirit will…

Pray for the Holy Spirit to Open Eyes to See Four Things

Prayer A to Z

For those we are witnessing to, we should pray that the Holy Spirit would open their spiritual eyes to see these four things:

1  That they would see that they are lost.  By lost I mean those who are separated from God because of their sin—for the wages of sin is death (Rom. 6:23).  They are lost not because they have sinned (for all have sinned), but because they have not found a remedy for their sin.  I think a good description of the lost are those who don’t know the truth and therefore can’t find their way to God.

Pray that the Holy Spirit would help them to see their sin and to see that God’s penalty for sin is eternal separation from Him.

2  That they would see the certainty of hell.  As we have already discussed, the horrors of hell are certain for all that…
