A Picture of the Blessings of God

This beautiful full tree by this full creek gives us a picture of the blessings of God upon all who trust in Him. We can be blessed with all His goodness when we trust in Him. And we will fear nothing but will continue to enjoy the blessings of the Lord as long as we are nourished by His life.

“Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord

And whose trust is the Lord.

8 “For he will be like a tree planted by the water,

That extends its roots by a stream

And will not fear when the heat comes;

But its leaves will be green,

And it will not be anxious in a year of drought

Nor cease to yield fruit.

Our Great Responsibility to Intercede for Others

Stephen Nielsen's avatarPrayer A to Z

It is certainly clear from scripture that we have a great job ahead of us—to pray for all men.  But why must we do it? And if we must do it, how do we get motivated to do it?

Why do we have a responsibility to intercede for people?  The answer is that God has made us responsible by making us His priests.  As priests He has commissioned us and called us to intercede for all men.

With this calling He has given us a desire deep inside us to intercede.  And so, even though we may at times regret the hard work of intercession, deep inside our soul we secretly love it.  Yes, we love to be involved with Christ in His work.  For as His interceding priests we have the glorious privilege of ruling with Him and extending His rule.  Hence, in no other way can we…

Paul’s Prayer Request’s for His Disciples

Stephen Nielsen's avatarPrayer A to Z

  1. That God would give you wisdom to see clearly and really understand who Christ is and all that He has done for you (Eph. 1:17).

  2. That your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can see something of the future He has called you to share (Eph. 1:18).

  3. That you will realize that God has been made rich because we who are Christ’s have been given to Him (Eph. 1:18).

   4. That you will begin to understand how incredibly great His power is to help those who believe Him (Eph. 1:19).

   5.  That out of His glorious unlimited resources He will give you the mighty inner strength of His Holy Spirit so that Christ may be more and more at home in your heart as you trust in Him (Eph. 3:16,17).

  6.  That your roots will go down deep into…

Eight Groups of People We Should Pray For

Stephen Nielsen's avatarPrayer A to Z

Paul wrote, “first of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men” (I Timothy 2:1).  We see from this verse that there is a sense in which our prayers must include the whole world.  They must go beyond our own families, our churches, our friends, and our country.  What a great and awesome responsibility we have.  And at the same time what a great privilege and honor God has given to us to be able to touch a soul on the other side of the world.

I have laid out for you what I have found from my study to be the main groups of people we should pray and intercede for.  Here are those groups, eight in all.

1.  Secular leaders (1 Timothy 2:2).  Under the heading of “all men,” the first group that Paul instructs…

What Is intercession? A 7 Point Summary

Stephen Nielsen's avatarPrayer A to Z

BASICS OF PRAYERHere is a seven point summary of Intercession from this book Basics of Prayer

1.  It is standing in the gap or praying on behalf of a person who needs help, and in many cases, for whom Satan is trying to destroy.

2.  It is praying for those whom God has given to us—for those whom God has put on our heart; most often it is for those whom we have a ministry with.

3.  It is a particular kind of prayer that demands our unselfish devotion to God, to a pure life, and to those whom we pray for.  It demands our willingness to loose ourselves for others and for the will of God.

4.  To be an intercessor we must feel a concern and a responsibility for those we are interceding for.  We must associate with their sins and their needs.

5.  The prayers of an intercessor…

Daniel the Intercessor: Five Things to Learn from Daniel’s Intercession

Stephen Nielsen's avatarPrayer A to Z

Dan 9:3-19

3 Then I set my face toward the Lord God to make request by prayer and supplications, with fasting, sackcloth, and ashes. 4 And I prayed to the Lord my God, and made confession, and said, “O Lord, great and awesome God, who keeps His covenant and mercy with those who love Him, and with those who keep His commandments, 5 we have sinned and committed iniquity, we have done wickedly and rebelled, even by departing from Your precepts and Your judgments. 6 Neither have we heeded Your servants the prophets, who spoke in Your name to our kings and our princes, to our fathers and all the people of the land. 7 O Lord, righteousness belongs to You, but to us shame of face, as it is this day — to the men of Judah, to the inhabitants of Jerusalem and all Israel, those near and…

A Picture of Intercession from the Book of Esther

Stephen Nielsen's avatarPrayer A to Z

Esther approachingThe story of Esther gives us a clear picture of how intercession works. In the story, Queen Vashti was divorced from King Ahasuerus because she refused to dance before the king and his guests at a banquet.  Later, after the king’s anger had subsided, a search was made for a new Queen.  Esther was chosen, and the king loved her.

Soon afterwards, King Ahasuerus appointed a man named Haman as Prime Minister; and as the king commanded, all the king’s officials were to bow down to him.  But Mordecai, who was Esther’s cousin and the one who reared her, refused to bow down to Haman because of his Jewish faith.  Upon hearing this news Haman was furious and immediately began to plot the destruction of all the Jews, out of which a decree was issued and signed by the king that all Jews would be killed on the 28th of…

Four Ways the Holy Spirit Intercedes for Us

Stephen Nielsen's avatarPrayer A to Z

The Holy Spirit is the person of God who intercedes for us on earth.  Here is a picture of His intercession.

 1.  He prays for us.  A big part of the intercession of the Holy Spirit is His prayer for us.  While Jesus is praying for us in heaven, the Holy Spirit is praying for us here on earth in our hearts.

Romans 8:27 says that He intercedes for us “according to God.” Most translations say that He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.  However, a literal translation should read “according to God”, leaving out “the will of”.  William Newel states, “We feel that the introduction of the words ‘the will of’ before the word God, merely obscures the meaning.”  He states that the phrase “according to God” is a more “all inclusive” and “blessed expression.”  Newel says it this way: “We know not how…

What the Bible Says about the Resurrection — 5 Points

But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they came to the tomb bringing the spices which they had prepared. 2 And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb, 3 but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. 4 While they were perplexed about this, behold, two men suddenly stood near them in dazzling clothing; 5 and as the women were terrified and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, “Why do you seek the living One among the dead? 6 “He is not here, but He has risen. Remember how He spoke to you while He was still in Galilee, 7 saying that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.” 8 And they remembered His words, 9 and returned from the tomb and reported all these things to the eleven and to all the rest (Luke 24:1-9).

Five things the Bible says about the Resurrection

1 Jesus’ resurrection is prophetic (Psalm 16:10)

For You will not abandon my soul to Sheol;

Nor will You allow Your Holy One to undergo decay.

2 Jesus’ resurrection is promised (John 2: 19-21)

Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.”  20 The Jews then said, “It took forty-six years to build this temple, and will You raise it up in three days?” 21 But He was speaking of the temple of His body.

3 Jesus resurrection is declared (Romans 1:3-4)

Concerning His Son, who was born of a descendant of David according to the flesh, 4 who was declared the Son of God with power by the resurrection from the dead, according to the Spirit of holiness, Jesus Christ our Lord.

4 Jesus resurrection is a priority (1 Corinthians 15:3-4)

For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures.

5 Jesus’ resurrection is sobering (Acts 17:30-31)

“Therefore having overlooked the times of ignorance, God is now declaring to men that all people everywhere should repent, 31 because He has fixed a day in which He will judge the world in righteousness through a Man whom He has appointed, having furnished proof to all men by raising Him from the dead.”

Wisdom — Proverbs 14:6-8

A scoffer seeks wisdom and finds none,

But knowledge is easy to one who has understanding.

7 Leave the presence of a fool,

Or you will not discern words of knowledge.

8 The wisdom of the sensible is to understand his way,

But the foolishness of fools is deceit (Prov. 14:6-8).
