God’s Remedy for Sadness Over New Administration

Since the election of the new President (Jan. 20), I’ve been feeling rather sad. And I’m wondering why. I guess I feel that righteousness in the country and in the world is not being done. Good people are being stopped and stepped on, and bad people are being praised. The media, who are supposed to just report the news are really Satan’s instruments of deception. Our new president who has taken every step to prop up sin and to put our country on a path to destruction, is being praised and worshipped as if he is the new Savior of mankind.

Meanwhile, our former President, who has done so many good things for our country—in spite of being harassed and ridiculed every minute of every day for the last four years—is now being impeached. For what? For inciting a riot, which he did not do. He was trying to bring justice to an unjust election.

So, this is why I am feeling sad. But I must break out of this mood, with prayer, and look toward heaven. I can be comforted by the good news (in 1Thess. 4:15-17) that soon …

The Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet of God; and the dead in Christ shall rise first. 17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and thus we shall always be with the Lord.

Such wonderful news to think about!

Though we live in the world we must not let the world get us down. For we have been raised up with Christ and we sit with Him in the heavenly places. And He has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in Christ. Though we should pray for the country and the world, we must set our mind on things above where Christ is, not on all the things of this world. For our real life is hidden with Christ in God. Soon, when He comes and we see Him, we will be revealed with him in glory (Eph. 1:3; Col. 3:1-4).

Let Us Pray: A National Day of Prayer

My church has canceled worship services today because of the coronavirus. Many churches around the nation are doing the same thing. I was thinking that we should take this off day to pray. In fact, that was also on the President’s mind. I received a letter from Franklin Graham yesterday declaring today to be a National Day of Prayer, and I want to pass that letter on to you.

Dear Friend,

Our President has declared tomorrow, Sunday, March 15, to be a National Day of Prayer. He reminded the entire country that throughout its history, the United States has looked to God for strength and protection in times like these.

I am thankful to President Trump for recognizing the power of prayer and showing faith in the Lord to intervene on our behalf. With so much uncertainty surrounding the coronavirus at home and around the world, people are afraid. Now is the time for Christians to be strong and courageous, knowing that Almighty God is with us. As His Word instructs, we are to cast our cares upon Him, because He cares for us (1 Peter 5:7).

We need to pray for those who are sick and their families, for those who are living in fear and anxiousness, for the professionals who are providing medical care, for those working on treatments and a vaccine for COVID-19, and for our leaders to act with wisdom and courage as they make vital decisions that impact each of our lives. Please also lift up the President and our nation’s coronavirus task force headed by Vice President Mike Pence in prayer as they work closely and diligently with the myriad of issues related to this pandemic.
 
 
Some churches are not meeting in person for worship this Sunday to avoid possibly spreading the virus. But that doesn’t prevent us as the Body of Christ from coming before the Lord, kneeling in prayer, and pouring our hearts out to Him. “Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need” (Hebrews 4:16).

I ask that you contact your friends and family and ask them to join in prayer tomorrow, whether gathered together in person, or in their homes.

President’s Day: What Makes a President Great?

Today is President’s Day. It’s the day we celebrate Lincoln and Washington’s birthday.

But I think we should really celebrate all the great Presidents. What makes a great president? To me, a great president is someone who thinks of the country more than himself. He thinks of making the country prosperous more than the wealth and power he may inherit for himself. Also, and more importantly, he lifts up God, supports prayer, and does the best he can to squash evil and corruption. Both President Washington and Lincoln did this.

I think this is also a day to think of President Trump and to pray that he would be continually focused on doing what is good for this country and to please the God of heaven. And I know that he thinks that way. Yes, he has asked for prayer that the will of God be done. I know that.

And we should pray that in all of the President’s efforts he will enact policies to rid our country of evil and evil workers. Pray that he will be working to establish justice and to promote godliness and prayer in our land.
