Proverbs 16:5 

Everyone who is proud in heart is an abomination to the Lord;

Assuredly, he will not be unpunished.

Here we see how God thinks about pride; it is a disgrace to Him. And God will surely punish it. We also see here that pride comes from the heart—inside the very center of the person. Pride is more of an attitude; the attitude of stubbornness or refusing to bend; whereas arrogance is more vocal. It is the expression of pride, the talking up of self and the talking down of others.

Isaiah 2:11-12

The proud look of man will be abased

And the loftiness of man will be humbled,

And the Lord alone will be exalted in that day.

12 For the Lord of hosts will have a day of reckoning

Against everyone who is proud and lofty

And against everyone who is lifted up,

That he may be abased.

Here we see that a proud person will have his day of judgment, where he will be humbled; for God is opposed to the proud. Here also, we see that the proud one has a certain look about him; a loftiness or a haughtiness.  

Isaiah 13:11

Thus I will punish the world for its evil

And the wicked for their iniquity;

I will also put an end to the arrogance of the proud

And abase the haughtiness of the ruthless.

This time of punishment on the world will be during the seven-year Tribulation. Notice that all three of our words are used. In that time of severe punishment, the man who is proud in heart will be arrogant in his words and haughty in his look. God will put an end to it all before He brings in His holy kingdom where He will reign for one thousand years.   

Daniel 5:20-21

“But when his heart was lifted up and his spirit became so proud that he behaved arrogantly, he was deposed from his royal throne and his glory was taken away from him. 21 “He was also driven away from mankind, and his heart was made like that of beasts, and his dwelling place was with the wild donkeys.

Here is a message and a warning to Belshazzar from Damiel, that he should humble himself before God, and that if he does not, he may become like his father Nebuchadnezzar who became proud and therefore, God took his throne from him and he became like a beast (from Daniel 4:31-32). Notice that both the words proud and arrogant are used: “[He] became so proud that he behaved arrogantly.”  Pride is that condition of the heart, and arrogance is the visible manifestation.  Notice also how God dealt with him to put him in his place.

Luke 1:50-51

“AND HIS MERCY IS UPON GENERATION AFTER GENERATION TOWARD THOSE WHO FEAR HIM.

51 “He has done mighty deeds with His arm;

He has scattered those who were proud in the thoughts of their heart.

In this portion of Mary’s Magnificat, she tells how God scatters those who were proud. Notice that their pride was in the thoughts of their heart.

1 Peter 5:5

You younger men, likewise, be subject to your elders; and all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, for GOD IS OPPOSED TO THE PROUD, BUT GIVES GRACE TO THE HUMBLE.

Here Peter declared, from Proverbs 3:34, that God is opposed to the proud. These same words are recorded in James 4:8
