1 Corinthians 15:51-52

Behold, I tell you a mystery; we shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet; for the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed.

Here the rapture is spoken of as a mystery, or as something previously hidden, but now revealed—for it was never mentioned in the Old Testament and only mentioned one time in the gospels, in John 14:1-3.  The Corinthians had not heard of it before, but apparently it was revealed to Paul by the Holy Spirit.

The teaching of the rapture here is quite self-explanatory: (1) all those of the church, living and dead, at the point of the rapture will be changed, or transformed—our corruptible bodies will become incorruptible; (2) it will happen very rapidly—as fast as…

Abiding in Christ: Eight Things a Christian Does to Keep Himself Abiding

Stephen Nielsen's avatarPrayer A to Z

The following article is an excerpt from this book.

The key to answered prayer is to abide in Christ and to let His words abide in us.  In John 15:7 it says, “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you” (NKJV).

Here are eight things an abiding Christian does to strengthen his faith in order to keep himself abiding in Christ—taken from my e-book Prayer A to Z.

1. He makes it his habit to meditate on the Word every day.  This daily meditation time helps him to see things from God’s perspective, gives him a desire for God, and helps him to adjust his desires to God’s desires.

 2.  He obeys God and keeps himself busy with His work. The abiding believer knows that faith isn’t really faith without obedience and work. …

Answers To Prayer: Three Reasons Why We Can Be Confident that Prayer Works

In this new year, 2021, I will be reblogging from this prayer blog. Happy new year!

Stephen Nielsen's avatarPrayer A to Z

The following article is an excerpt from this book.

Prayer was never meant to be an end in itself—not an exercise to glory in, to impress someone, or even merely for communion and enjoyment of God (though that is part of prayer).  Rather, the main purpose of prayer is to glorify God when we receive from Him the things we ask for (Jn. 14:13).  And that is what we should expect when we pray—that He will give us exactly what we ask for, nothing else, nothing different.  Here are three reasons why we can know that we can recieve answers to prayertaken from my book Prayer A to Z.

1.  In all of Jesus’ teachings on prayer He has emphasized strongly that we can receive answers.  In Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount, in Matthew 7:7-11, Jesus instructed His disciples on asking and receiving.  He told them that if…

The following article is an excerpt from this book.

John 14:1-3

“Let not your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 “In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. 3 “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.

Rapture picture

In this passage the rapture is described as Jesus receiving us to Himself that we may be with Him in the Father’s house with the Father.  We can only imagine how beautiful this place will be.  It will be wonderful!

The next two key rapture passages that I will write on  are…

A History of Prayer Posture

Stephen Nielsen's avatarPrayer A to Z

Through both Old and New Testament times, standing for prayer seemed to be the norm for public prayer.  Such positions as sitting and kneeling were almost never practiced in public prayer, but were more often practiced in private prayers.

Shortly after the advent of Christ, however, kneeling began to be practiced more often, especially in public worship.  In fact, according to an article written by a Markus Bochmuel, the first entire half of the service was practiced while kneeling, followed by the rest of the service in which the congregation stood.  I presume that this new movement of kneeling in the service (during which a liturgy was said) began by the insistent teaching of the church fathers that kneeling was “a necessary expression of humility and submission.”  No doubt, all these holy minded church fathers had a clear and lasting picture of what they knew and heard about Jesus and…

The Marriage of The Lamb, 7 Parts

Stephen Nielsen's avatarStudying Bible Prophecy

In the Marriage of the Lamb you may be thinking particularly of the consummation of the marriage between Christ (the Lamb) and the church, which takes place in heaven after the bema seat of Christ. However, a larger view of the marriage begins at Christ’s first coming and ends at the creation of the New Heaven and New Earth. This is the view we will present here, which, as we will see, is patterned after a typical Jewish wedding. We will present it in seven parts; first describing to you the Jewish practice, followed by how the churches marriage with Christ corresponds to that practice. The wedding begins with the betrothal.

The Betrothal Period

The betrothal period for a Jewish marriage is the period between the time of the arrangement of the marriage and the actual marriage ceremony and consummation. That betrothal period in ancient days was sometimes quite…

Four Ways to Exercise True Christianity – Matthew 5:39-42

Stephen Nielsen's avatarPrayer A to Z

Jesus in His Sermon on the Mount gives us four ways to exercise His true teachings by dying to self. In D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones’ fine exposition of Matthew 5:39-42, he emphasizes that before we make any effort to follow Jesus’ teachings it is important to have an attitude and a mind that is prepared by the Spirit.

1. Instead of resisting an evil person that slaps us on the cheek, we should turn the other cheek also (v. 39). As a Christian we are not to be concerned with our own personal injuries or comfort. We are to be indifferent to self, believing that God will care for us. However, if we believe that the man who struck us is out of control and has a problem with anger, or a drug problem, or any other thing, it may be good to show him his problem and try to restrain…

Intercession According to Paul

Stephen Nielsen's avatarPrayer A to Z

Paul was a great prayer warrior and was always interceding for others.  Here are three passages having to do with Paul’s intercession. Then please take note of the three things I have observed from Paul about what intercession is:

Romans 1:9-10

For God, whom I serve in my spirit in the preaching of the gospel of His Son, is my witness as to how unceasingly I make mention of you, 10 always in my prayers making request, if perhaps now at last by the will of God I may succeed in coming to you.

Colossians 1:3-5

We give thanks to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you, 4 since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and the love which you have for all the saints;

Philippians 1:3-11

I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, 4 always offering prayer with joy…
